Vision and Mission Statements

Most organizaitons have both vision and mission statements. A vision statement statement is long term with a focus in the future; it is the group's or organization's vision of where they will be. A mission statement describes the purpose of the organization and how they will accomplish that purpose. Both vision and mission statements relate to the group's or organization's goals.

While vision and mission statements are similar, the mission statement drives the day-to-day business. Vision statements provide the roadmap for the future.

Vision Statement Mission Statement
  • How do we see our future?
  • Where will we be?
  • What will the industry look like?
  • What will be of value?
  • What do we do?
  • What makes us unique?
  • Who are our customers?
  • What value do we provide to our customers?
  • What do we value?

Groups and organizations will want to periodically review both their vision and mission statements; however, changes to the vision statement should be rare unless the customer base or industry has changed. The mission statement may be updated to reflect new technology, terminology, or processes.
