Leadership Skills
EI: Your Impact
Along with developing greater empathy with other people goes your ability to have a positive influence on your life and on the lives of those closest to you. People with high emotional intelligence will have a positive impact.
How?
- Recognize how emotions affect your performance
Remember the activity earlier about thinking about how you are feeling? (Hopefully you are doing that a few times each day.)
Try to think positively, and you will notice a difference in your performance. You might even find that other people's performance improves as well.
- Understand your behavior style
Your reactions and behaviors are yours–you control what you think and feel
- Work towards a state of "flow" or harmony
Don't let the little things jar or derail you
–focus on the task at hand
You are the most powerful of the sources of motivation
because you are where it all begins.
What Else?
Here are some other things you can do:
- Connect goals with values.
If you have work that is personally meaningful, it will engage your emotions positively. Your hobbies should also be related to your values.
- Visualization.
Maintain a positive vision of where you are going. If you don't have that roadmap yet, start one!
- Keep learning.
Increasing your knowledge and the tools you can use will make you more versatile. There is always something new to learn.
